A fluent Welsh speaker, born and raised in Aberystwyth, Michael has had a varied musical career.

After graduating in music from the university in his hometown in 1987, Michael accepted a place at the Welsh College of Music and Drama to study accompaniment with Janet Massocchi.  Following a brief return to Aberystwyth to gain a teaching qualification, he again moved south to teach at Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Aberdar.

Michael maintained his involvement with music when appointed as deputy accompanist to Cwmbach Male Choir in 1992, becoming their deputy conductor in 1997 and conductor in 2002. In 1995 he was invited by Colstars Operatic and Dramatic Society to be the accompanist for their production of “Irene”; the following year he was appointed Musical Director and has remained in the position ever since.

Michael was the founder conductor of Cytgord – Côr Merched Cwm Cynon and was also the accompanist to ‘Con Voce’ SATB choir in Merthyr Tydfil from 2007-15.

Michael was appointed as the accompanist of Côr Meibion Dowlais in 2012.
