Joseph Colbeck-Jones

Accompanist

Jospeh Colbeck-Jones

Joseph is 19 years old and was a former student at Neath Port Talbot College. He has played the piano for 10 years. At age 15, Joseph attained his Grade 8 ABRSM examination, and is currently studying for his Diploma with Jeremy Ryan. He is in demand as a soloist having performed with numerous choirs and at dinner and charity events. At 9 years old, Joseph reached the Urdd National Eisteddfod for the first time, and has appeared on 4 occasions since then. Since age 11, Joseph has also played at wedding functions. In 2017, Joseph won the Rotary Young Musician Award for the district and regional competitions, and made it to the final round which was held at the Cardiff University School of Music.

Joseph is also a keen arranger and composer, and in addition to arranging a piano and harp Les Miserables medley for his own GCSE Performing Examination, Joseph has also arranged items for his old school to perform at their Annual Christmas Festivals. He has formed his own band, La La Vintage, where he takes modern songs, and arranges them so that they have a vintage jazz twist to them.
Joseph is the former accompanist for the Merthyr Tydfil Ladies Choir, and regularly accompanies vocalists and instrumentalists for both concerts and examinations. He took up the position of accompanist for the Phoenix Singers in spring 2018 and has also accompanied the Neath Male Voice Choir and Abercynon Male Voice Choir. Joseph is also a member of a funk band and a traditional jazz band which is run by him and his college friends. He has also musically directed productions of Jesus Christ Superstar in 2017, and Whistle Down The Wind for the Class Act Theatre School in Swansea.
Joseph also plays the bassoon, and studies with Natalie Field in Cardiff. In August 2019 he achieved a Triple Distinction in BTEC Music and was subsequently accepted for a scholarship at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff.
Joseph joined Dowlais Male Choir in spring 2019 and the Choir was grateful to him for stepping in under such difficult circumstances. We wish Joseph all the very best for his first Annual Concert in October 2019 and for what looks like a promising future in music.
