On the evening of Wednesday 10th June 2015, Dowlais Male Choir was invited to participate in pre-dinner entertainment at the National Museum of Wales, Cardiff. The venue was chosen for a Focus Conference Dinner for the Association for Clinical Biochemistry and Laboratory Medicine. The Focus organisation shared the meeting between Wales, South West England & Wessex regions to represent both sides of the Bristol Channel. The delegates were given an opportunity to view the exhibits as pre-dinner drinks were served in the art galleries. The conference was held in the Wales Millennium Centre, situated in the lively surroundings of Cardiff Bay.

The museum was an ideal setting for the Choir’s performance as the building acoustics and ambiance gave the choir a sensation of singing in a Cathedral with its tall marble interior and its dome elevation. Musical Director Darya Brill-Williams, accompanied by Michael Jones led the choir with a selection of Welsh songs thus giving the dinner guests a cultural taste of Wales. The boys also performed several modern and operatic musical items.

The Choir ended their performance with a rousing rendition of the Welsh National Anthem (Mae Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau), with the guests upstanding to show their respect and appreciation.

Interestingly, the venue has links with choir officers. Chairman Iwan Jones has been master of ceremonies on several occasions, PR officer David Powell is employed by Amgueddfa Cymru, and our musical team Darya Brill Williams and Michael Jones have conducted/ accompanied various soloists and choirs.
