Over the last 50 years the choir has travelled extensively to several countries including:- America, Canada, Northern Cyprus, Holland, France, Bulgaria, Ireland and Italy. We have won the National Eisteddfod and represented Wales twice at the International Celtic Festival in Lorient, Brittany. We have sung in some very prestigious venues including Massey Hall Toronto, Bercy Stadium and the Champs Elyse Paris, the Millennium Stadium, Millennium Hall and St David’s Hall Cardiff, Birmingham Symphony Hall, Bellapais Abbey Northern Cyprus, St Paul’s Cathedral, Science Museum and The Royal Albert Hall, London.
The Choir have made a number of television appearances and sung with a variety of famous names including Bryn Terfel, Katherine Jenkins, Haley Westenra, Donny Osmond, Wynne Evans, Rebecca Evans to name just a few. We had also had the honour of performing for HRH Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall.
We believe we are the first and only choir to have had a recording taken into space, which was by Canadian born Astronaut Daffydd Rhys Williams on the Columbia Shuttle in 1998. We also had the tenors of Dowlais mentioned in Under Milkwood by Dylan Thomas.
We are very keen to recruit new choristers and give them the opportunity to experience the pleasure of singing in some wonderful venues with first class performers. If you are interested please contact our Secretary Keith Morgan on 01685 388230. Any man with an interest in singing would be welcome to come along to any of our rehearsals, you do not have to be an opera or pop singer to be a member of the choir and there is no audition, contact Keith or just come along.
Choir Practice – At Market Square Church, Three Salmon Street, Merthyr Tydfil every Sunday and Wednesday from 7pm other than Public Holidays or Bank Holidays. Visitors are welcome but please check with the Secretary for variations.
Please contact us if you wish to book Côr Meibion Dowlais, or visit the events section to see a list of our engagements.
