Since 2001, the Choir has had a permanent display of its history and memorabilia at Merthyr’s Cyfarthfa Castle Museum.
Chiefly the work of then-Chairman Grahame Clark and fellow chorister Eddie Coombes, the Choir’s display includes a fascinating range of artifacts, spanning the whole of the Choir’s history, including the MBE of founder conductor DT Davies and the scroll that gave that man of music his freedom of the Borough of Merthyr Tydfil. Eisteddfod winner medals and a whole range of national and international tour memorabilia add breadth and scope to the story of the Choir over the last five decades.
Bringing the exhibition to vivid – and decidedly modern – life, the display also contains a CD player, filling the air with the sound of the Choir’s distinctive harmonies.
Whether you’re a local or a visitor to the region, you really shouldn’t miss a visit to the Dowlais Male Choir exhibit at Cyfarthfa Castle Museum. Come along, learn some choral history, and treat yourself to a CD of the Choir’s greatest hits – on sale now at the Castle.
