On Friday evening Cor Meibion Dowlais were at High Street Baptist Church along with award-winning baritone, Twm Tegid, the children of Edwardsville Primary School Choir and Flautist Rebecca Luxton to present an evening of Music. The Church was full and looked beautiful. What an outstanding event it turned out to be! If you missed it, you missed an absolute phenomenal event!!

During the evening tribute was paid to the fallen in an Act of Remembrance thoughtfully led by David Powell, Minister in Training and included Standard Bearer, Neville Hamer of the Welsh Guards. It was a dignified and fitting tribute to the fallen and very much appreciated by the large audience.

Dowlais Male Choir was led by our very own Darya Brill-Williams, Musical Director and the Choir Accompanist was Joseph Colbeck-Jones. They sang a selection of items which were so well received by those present. We are fortunate to have such talent in High Street as Ryan Crowley, who was part of the Music Team that brought along Edwardsville Primary School Choir, alongside accompanist Mrs Cerys Caddick. The children were amazing and delighted the audience with their sweet voices and enthusiasm.

The Guest Soloist was Twm Tegid who has strong connections with Merthyr Tydfil. His rich baritone voice took us though a range of music from Opera to Welsh and English folk songs. To say the audience were thrilled is an understatement. What a privilege to have been part of the evening and experience such a soloist.

This tribute would not be complete until we mention guest flautist Rebecca Luxton and our very good friend, guest accompanist and organist Jonathan Gulliford. A huge thank you is given to all those involved in this outstanding feast of music.

The finale of the evening was a spiritual medley by Dowlais choir. It was brilliant to see how the children responded to this change in tempo – they were animated and swaying in their seats and Darya even handed over her baton to one of the children who had the choir holding a note for the longest time - phew! The evening culminated with the Welsh National Anthem which raised the roof with everyone in the building participating wholeheartedly. Some parts of the evening were so poignant that there was hardly a dry eye in the house, but everyone left far richer for having been there. THANK YOU EVERYONE.
